PROGRESS OF BATTLE.
ALLIES HOLD LINES. Received Tuesday, 11.25 p.m. Paris, Monday. Official—The enemy's heavy artillery resultlessly bombarddd the front at Nieuport. The Allies, particularly the Belgians, repulsed the Germane, who renewed the attacks and advanced to Roulers. We progressed on the left between the Lys and La Basse in the direction of Lille. After stubborn fighting at La Basse we advanced slightly. The Allies about Arras are fighting without respite for ten days. They repulsed strong counter-attacks and gained ground at Chanldes. There is nothing to report from the centre. On the right our advanced postß, are on the line from Bonomine and still hold their position ALLIES GAIN GROUND. REACH ENEMY'S DEFENCES. Received this day, 12.20 a.m. Pariß, Tuesday. The Allies made a blight advance between Arras and Roye, where they reached the enemy's wire entanglement. They also gained ground on the tight bank of the Moubo in the environs of Saint Mihiel.
NORTHERN FRANCE OPERATIONS. GERMANS REPULSED. Received this day 8.45 a.m. Paris, Tuesday. The Allies fougnt their way forward house by, house at La, Basse. They also completely defeated a series of German efforts to break through be tweon Peronne and Saint Quentin. GERMAN ONSLAUGHT WEAKENS. ALLIES HOLD POSITION. Receive'd this day, 84.5 a.m. Londno, Tuesday. The Telegraph's correspondent, who visted the battlefields an Northern France, aays there is every indication that German Bledge-hammerism has lost its power. The onslaughts are futile against the Allies' centre. The German avalanche in the northeastern area is daily weakening. ARRAS DISTRICT DEVASTATED. DAMAGE AT RIIEIMS. Received this day, 8.45 a.m. London, Tuesday. The Dail Mail's correspondent nays Arras suffered nearly aa much as Louvain. Rheirna town hall, mußsum and theatre are gutted, and most of the buildings in the centre of the town are in ruins. The Cathedral's famous belfry is severely damaged. A shell struck the hospital killing a number of wounded and nurses.
