An overseas steamer brought news that the German cruiser Emden was captured on Sunday by British and Japanese cruisers. . Official confirmation of the report is lacking. GERMANY'S NAVAL METHODS.. PROTECTING PACIFIC FLEET Shanghai, Tueday. The German gunboat Tsing-tao was off the Bund at Canton at the beginning of hostilities. She was entrusted to the chief engineer as a majority of the crew had gone to Tsing-tao. One morning she disappeared, dropped some guns and ammunition overboard, and returned to the Bund. She was sold to a German firm for twenty-two pence, and is now registered as a merchantman.
