WISH TO JOIN TRIPLE ENTENTE.
Very little fresh news is conveyed by to-day's cables concerning the operations of the armies in the field. The German retreat has steadied and the Allies have been delayed by the necessity of building' bridges across the rivers swollen by the recent torrential rains. The German army has taken up a new line which is said to be strongly fortified. ' . The Austrians continue to receive severe punishment at the hands of both Russians and Servians, and the losses are now enormous. Fresh interest is added to the situation by the clamour of the Italian people.to join the Triple Entente, and it is reported that the Italian re- x servists have received orders to join the colours on Monday week.
