BELGIANS DRIVE GERMANS BACK.

To-day's cables confirm the news of the great victory of the 'Allies in France. The Germans are in hasty retreat at all points and the retreat is developing into a complete rout. The latest cable conveys news of the surrender of General Von Kluck and a large force of German troops, estimated at from 14,000 to 25,000. Evidently the Allies left wing succeeded in diiving a wedge between the German right and centre, against which the British troops have been operating, and the movement* culminated in the surrender of an important body of the enemy The victory is described by General Joffre as being more than, complete. There are reports of the capitulation of a large portion of the Austrian army operating against Russia, and the Austrians have suffered a further severe reverse at the hands of the Russians. The Russian army in Prussia has been checked by the Germans and large reinforcements of Germans are being sent to oppose the Russian advance. The Belgians who are said to be assisted by a British force are harrying the Germans in Belgium and driving them back. The report that the Russians are operating in Belgiu m is again denied.
