ENORMOUS BATTLE LINE * Paris, Mondßy It is officially reported that a great battle is in progress The line of battle extends from Mons, south-west of Brussels, to the frontier of Luxemburg The French have everywhere taken the offensive, in conjunction with the British force, which was baßed upon Mons Th 9 advancing forces are attacking nearly the whole of the Northern German army It is presumed that the battle will last for aeveral days THE ALLIES* ADVANCE ALONG THE SAMBRE Paris, Monday It is stated that the advance of the armies of the Allies began in earnest on Sunday evening, when the armies moved forward along both banks of the Sambre river The march began at the French frontier fortress of Maubergh, and continued up to Namur It is believed that Charloroi, midway between the French frontier and Namur, was the centre of the action, and that this town was taken by the Germans and then re-occupied by the Allies'
GERMANS CROSS FRONTIER LUNEVILLE OCCUPIED Paris, Monday It is officially announced that the Germana have occupied Luneville, an unfortified town twelve miles from the frontier The French are withdrawing from the passes of Donon, in Lorraine, and Snales. in Northern Alsace Thee 9 positions are r.o longer considered important, as the Frencfa occuoy a fortified fine beginning at Grande Couronne de Nancy
