At a largely attended meeting held in the local Municipal Hall on Monday evening, he gave an interesting and instructive lecture entitled, "Love, Courtship,'and Marriage Among the East Africans." In a vivid and raalistic manner he told of the utterly degraded and heathenish customs of those people, who live in a district where there is no affection, and woman is looked upon as solely a means of barter. In a. humorous, yet earnest address, which was punctuated by applause and laughter alternating, the lecturer epoks of Home of tne experiences that the had gone through, and soma of the sad sights that he had witnessed but pointed out that through tha spread of missionary teaching the icL of woman in Portuguese East Africa is gradually in> uroving, so much so that instances are on record of suffering endured by certain native wemen who have dared to excrisa the right, which the law of the country oliows them, of having one husband, and ha of their own choice and wish. At the conclusion of the lecture, the Rev. f. Battey moved, and Mr Wilton seconded, a vote of thanks to the rev. lecturer, which was carried by acclamation.
