MANIAPOTO v. WAIPA On Saturday last the Maniapoto representative senior and junior teams journeyed to Te Awamu u to meet tbe Waipa reps. The local men were successful in both matches. The junior game was played as a curtain raiser, and though tbs Maniapoto boys had tbe best of the play the game was keenly fought. Tries were scored by W. Hetet, T. Hetet, and Witinui, and from a mark VV. Hetet landed a goal. The senior game started shortly after 3 o'clock. During the early portions of the game the Waipa kept Maniapoto on the defensive, T. Anderson clearing well. A forward rush carried play to the Waipa territory, but the full-back cleared well. Maniapoto were twice in a dangerous position, on each occasion a force resulting. Maniapoto forwards got away with ball at toe, Hunt leading, and invaded Waipa 25. The local forwards retaliated with a strong rush, Jim Clark picked up and found the line. Waipa again looked dangerous when a free kick relieved Maniapoto. The first spell ended without score. In the second spell the Maniupoto's put a lot of dash into their play and soon had Waipa on the defensive. Loose forward play carried the game up and down the field. S. Gray broke away with the ball at toe, but through kicking too hard, lost a chance of scoringi Foles received the all from J. Clark and raced for the line, but was pushed out when nearly over. Matthews, getting possession, crossed the line but no try was allowed. Half-time was called with play in Waipa territory. The second half opener" with a strong Waipa rush, which T. Anderson stopped successfully. Maniapoto forwards made a combined attack on the Waipa line, B. Clark gaining a lot of ground with a good dribble. From a good piece of forward play Hunt scored, ro goal resulting— Maniapoto 3, Waipa nil. Give and take play followed. A. Kay, the Waipa centre three quarter, conaiatehtly showed sound defensive work, and at times was equally good on the attack. The iast quarter was possibly the brightest football of the match, Maniapoto playing with much more dash than in the former parts of the game. Matthews rsceivsd the ball from J. Clark and with a good run gained ground. The visitors continued to press for some time, and from a forward rush Hunt again scored. The shot at goal was unsuccessful. Even play followed, and, not long before time wss called T. Anderson got pos session and registered Mainapoto'B third try. Again the shot was unsuccessful. The game thus ended Maniapoto 9, Waipa nil.
