WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL

Tho usual monthly meeting of the Waitomo County Council was held in the County Chambers on Monday evening. There were present Crs Scholea (chairman), Wer*', Potts, O'Dwyer, Smyth, Berry, Gregg and Johnston. The outward correspondence was approved. Resolved that the following special orders made at a special meeting of the Council, be now cu:Mirmed: — Mairoa South ,£2OOO, Ngapaenga £3500, Kawa £3500, Paraheka £7500. The inward correspondence was read and received as follows:

Engineer in Chief, Public Works Department, regarding stone crueller at Aria, in reply to request from Council to he allowed a further uho of crusher, stßtion that it could not be arranged as the Department urgently wanted crusher, but offered to Bell Bame to Council for £524.—-The engineer wrote stating that the Council did not wish to purchase the crusher, and thanked the Department for use of same. Possession could bo given to the Department a!; any time, but the crusher could not tie moved at present on account of the roads. The Resident Engineer forwarded a copy of the opacifications] for metalling the Kumara road und stated that the Department was not in any way committed to grantnig a subsidy.

The Telegraph Engineer wrote stating that his Department could not extend the telephone system to Ngapaenga as at present it was not warranted.—On the motion of Crs Were and Gregg it was resolved that the clerk should take further stops in the matter, the Council guaranteeing cost of erection. Same to bo spread over a certain period. Mr N. S. Thomas wrote requesting the Waitomo Council to cndorßO the following resolution, proposed at a meeting held o:i the Sth inst. : "At n representative mooting of settlerß interested in completing the formation of that part of the Muhoenui to Marokopa river road lving between Mangaohuo and To A nga at ",'hifih representatives of the Kawhia Chamber of Commerce and the Awakino County Council were represented.— It was resolved "That the member for the'district be asked lo have a grant placed for this road"—lJosolved that the Waitomo County Council endorse the resolution.

Messrs C. K. Wilson and J. A. Yonng.'M'o.P., wrote thanking tho Council for their letter* of appreciation forwarded to tln-m fur service* rendered to the Council.

Mr R. Wallace, Aria, wrote objecting to any loan proposal for metalling the Aria to Pio I'io row!. Mr E. Bennett wrote on aim Marlines.—Received.

The clerk of the Puparon County Council wrote asking for information regarding the organisation 'of the Local Bodies' Association.—The clerk read information, which he had bujplied. Resolved that Messrs Tarry and Co. ba given £59 bonus on tho contract completed on the Caves road. Mr J. A. Marx wrote asking the Council's permission to erect telephone line on side of the Troopers road to Mr Cleaver's far boundary. —Request granted subject to the engineer's approval, Mr C. J. Riddle, Rirs, asked the 1 Council to supply 'J» estimate of the coMt of forming, culvcrting and metalling the Waitaki road from Wairsre to the.Ohura road, and olao cost of reforming, culverting, and metalling tho' Wairare-Aria road from Wairere to the dairy factory. —ReBolvad that this matter bo left in the hands of the engineer to deal with.; The clerk to the Awakino County Council wrote asking whether fcho Waitomo County Council would cooperate with the Awakino County in getting a commission set up to go into the matter of adjusting tho boundaries of the Waitomo, Kawhia, and Kawhia Counties.—lt was resolved "That this Council considers that the time is not opportune to go into the question of altering boundaries, and think it would be better to wait until the districts are more developed and then their communities of interest could be taken into consideration." It was resolved that tho ohai*mnn amMreasurer sign debentures in connection with the Otewa a«d Mangawhero loans arid affix the County seal thereto.

Cr Scholes gave notio? of motion to move at the next mooting of tho Council to tie held on Monday, September 21st, 1914, "That a Renerol rate of five-eighths of a penny in the pound he struck."
