FURTHER FRENCH SUCCESSES
1000 GERMANS CAPTURED AUSTRIAN CRUISERS SUNK JAPANS' ULTIMATUM CONFIRMED Wellington, Tuesday The following war telegram was received this morning:— The French advancing in the valley of the Schirmeck secured 1000 prisoners The scene of the last two days' fighting shows the disastrous effect of the Alließ' artillery, the enemy's trenches being full of dead and wounded Japan's ultimatum to Germany is confirmed The French fleet in the Mediterranean made a sweep of the Adriatic to Cattaro, and sunk Austrian cruisers of the Aspern type The French successes at Dinant are confirmed The German forces included two cavalry divisions and several battalions of infantry The Fren-'h are forcing the further retreat of the Bavarians in the neighbourhood of£Circy
