AWAKINO COUNTY COUNCIL.

: —e - The ordinary meeting of the Awa kiro County Council was held a Waitanguru on August Bth. There were presenters Boddy (chairman), Patterson, Thorns, and Kelly. Correspondence was received from— The Department of Internal Affairs with reference to the redivision of the County into ridings. The Minister of Lands with reference to granting access to portion of Puketiti No 5. ♦ Mr A. P. Hnwarth County, solicitor, with reference to The Private Bill. ■ •

■' The Department of Lands and Survey referring to tue destruction of a bridge to L. Armitage's section. Mr T. Blair, with reference to the Mangaoronga sDecial'loan. The" Advances Department advising that the money' for the Kiritehere Inan was available.

Tie Kawhia County Council forwarding list of signatures to the petition with-reference to the alterafion of the County boundaries. Messrs Hally, Scott, Templeman, and Kinnane, objecting to portion at the'CoJiity being' merged into the Kawhia County.

Mr Higginsoir asking if the Council had power to lease certain reserves. On the motion of Cra Thorns and Patterson, ihe . correspondence was received as read.

With reference to the secession of portion of the County into the Kawhia County, on the motion of Crs Kellyarid Thomas, it was resolved that as the County had received a counter petition from settlers in the district affected asking that that pjrtion of the County under consideration be not severed from the Awakino Cunty, and as the boundary in other parts of the County need adjustment, that this Council considers it ia advisable that a commission ba set- up to adjust the boundaries of the three Counties — Waitomo, Kawhia, and Awakino —and the clerk was instructed to write the two other Counties asking them to co-operato in the matter. On tfhe motion of Crs Patterson and Thorns?, it was resolved that the matter of drawing up genersl specifications anil other printed matter in connection with contracts bo left in the hands of the ehainmn and engineer.

A petition wa-3 received by the Council which had been drawn up and approved of hy a representative meeting of settlers in connection with the completion of the Mahoenui Kawhia read.—On the motion of Crs Patterson and Kelly it wag resolved that the Asvekiiu) County Council endorse the resolution' that the member for the district be asked to obtain a sufficient grant to complete the formation of the Mahoenui-Kawhia road.

On the motion of Crs Thorn 3 and Kelly, it was resolved that the chairman be asked to pruceed to Wellington to urge and endeavour to get certain necessary grants and subsidies placed on the Estimates and in connection with other County business.

On the motion of Crs Boddy and Kelly, it was re°olved that temporary office accommodation he procured for the engineer at Pio Pio. On the motion of Cra Patterson and Thorns, it was left in thfl hands of Crs Boddy and Old to arrange about .office furniture. On the motion of Crs Boddy and Kelly, the clerk was authorised to purchase a typowriter for the County. On the motion of Cra Thorns and Kelly, the special order in connection with the Pomerangei special loan passed at a special meeting held on July 4tb, wis duly confirmed. On the motion of Crs Patterson and Thorns, the sum of £ls 15b 1 was voted to Cr Leech to cover travelling and out of pocket expenses incurred whilst acting as chairman of the County. The next mscting of the Council will be held at Waitanguru on Saturday, September sth.
