WORLD'S RECORD FOR DAIRY COW
GUERNSEY COW "MAY RILMA" PRODUCED 10731bs BUTTERFAT IN A YEAR The American Guernsey Cattle Club reports that a Pennsylvania cow has broken all previous records for a cow of any brned. Ohio, which recently held the honours, nas been outcalssed by a liberal margin. The Guernsey cow "May Rilma 22761," owned and bred by Captain E. B. Cassatt, at big famous Chesterbrook Farm, Burwyn, Pa., has just completed hsr official ypar'a work. The making of lerge record 3 and the possibilities of the dairy cow to yield maxiinum results at the pail is a matter of more than passing interest to her owners. The producer wishes to know the cost of production and if his margin of profit is being increased under better methods. The consumer also, regardless of all reed questions, hopes it may mean to him better and cheaper milk, for he it is who in the end pays the bill. Whether it is a Guernsey, Holstein or a Jersey that holds the penant for production simply shows which breed is making tha aiO:t progress along scientific lines and showing results. That the Guernsey leads in the economical production of the highest grade milk is very generally accepted. The name of the cow, the breed she represents and her wonderful record, should be known by all as a matter of dairy history.
May Rilma produced in 365 days from May Ist, 1913, to May Ist 1,914, 19,6731b milk and 1073.411b butter-fat; nearly ten tons „-f milk and the equivalent of 12601b of butter.
Her work has been carefully super vised under the Advanced Register regulations of the American Guernsey Cattle Club, whose headquarters are at Peterborough, N.H. Pennsylvania Experiment Stations officials haveconducted the regular teats through the year; even outside Institutions from as many different noted Dairy States, and a member of the Dairy Division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, have sent representatives to conduct tests for the Club and study the work of this wonderful cow. Albert Van Tuinen, who as dairyman, has had immediate care ot May Rilma, has shown great skill in handling and feeding to obtain results. Chesterbrook Farm retails milk for twelve cents per quart, and this cow shows a gross earning capacity of nearly 1200 dollara for one year, an income equal to that of many men
