COUNTY BOUNDARIES.
The manner in which the proposal of the Kakepuku settlers with reference, to joining the Waipa County was received by the Waitomo'County Council, is an indication that the local authorities are aware, that the boundaries of the various King Country Counties as at present existing are not entirely suitable for the best working of the affairs of the district. The cutting off of the Northern corner, of the county for the purpose of incorporatng that position in Waipa a altogether a commonsensa step. Community of intsreat of the district referred to is entirely with the W3l- - and the control of the work of that locality can best be- exercised from Te Awamutu. As far as the Waitomo County is concerned the county is somewhat unwieldy and the Northern corner is rather remote from the centre of control. On the other band the existing boundary between the Waitomo and West Taupo undoubtedly requires adjusting, and the steps now being takun to bring in a portion of the county for the purpose of including it in the Kio Kio loan is'an indication that the settlers are alive to the necessity of acting together for the general welfare. There is no doubt that progress would be quickened and administration immensely simplified by the proper adjustment of boundaries. It is to bs hoped steps will be taken to have the matter attended to at the earliest opportunity.
