TE KUITI HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The satisfactory position disclosed at the annual meeting of the Te Kuifci Horticultural Society must be highly gratifying to the public as well as to those who have taken activa part in promoting the Society. Prom very modest beginnings in a new centre the Society has grown in popularity and importance'until it has captured the interest of the majority of Te Kuiti residents. In combining 'to encourage the cultivation of beauty and utility by providing suitable sections for all kinds of garden produce the Society has acted wisely, and the decision, to esrahlish a poultry section in connection with the annual show is an extension which should be, generally welcomed. The. friendlyrivalry among amateurs ,in ail branches of enterprise concerned with th e improvement of the home surroundings is an important factor in the social life of any community. Moreover, it inspires an interest and provides an incentive to produce results worthy of the best efforts of all. In a % place so generously endowed by nature for the production of garden produce it should not he ong before Te Kuiti exhibitors will be in a position to compete with rival exhibitors in older centres and the of the * community are due to those who undertook the work uf promoting the local Society, and ara administering its affairs-i'n: 'sueti a capable and progressive manner.
