HOSPITAL LEVY.
When the question of the hospital levy was under discussion by the. Waitomo County Council, at last meeting, it was pointed out that the County was rated to pay the amount of Otorohanga's contribution, there being no provi lion made for the payment of a hospital rata by a Nativa town Council. Since the setting op of the Otorohanga Town Council, the amount which should b?ve been contributed by the'township residents has been raised by the County settlers. This ißobvi-* oustyfan injustice, and indicates the lack of consideration for detail by the promoters of the Native Townships legislation. It should be an easy matter to psss an amending clause to remedy the ' position, which exists* isnd if the attention of the Government is directed to it aetion would sorely be taken. When it is remembered that this year to the Bospital Board by the Waitomo County ■isf oV&jfc*: thousand pounds it will be recognised that the sett'ers are required to meet a suhetaptisl responsibility. Any reduction in this ~ amount would ne .welcomed/ prdyiding it could be achieved legitimately, and it to the duty of the authorities to see that the public contribution in the matter referred to is equitably distributed.
