JUST A PHILOSOPHER.

Someone asks, "What's a philosopher ?" Well, let-me here explain, "He's-the fellow that will teH you that 'tis asinine and vain to rebel against the workings of the mystic power called Fate ; and upon this thsme for hours he will with glee expatiate. He will prove that resignation is the proper thing always, and will speak of sweet submission in thei highest terms of praise. Should your children have the measles, or your bouse be set on fire and you hint that you're the victim of calamity most dire, the philosopher will tell you, with a calm and smiling face, that he wouldn't worry o'er, that had Pate put him in your place. Even should you fail in business and. have tlwse vile brokers in, the philsopher will tell 'you that to worry is a sin. Though you lose alt those possessions that a mortal man holds, dear, the philosopher will<«tell you" that you shovftd not shed a tear. But you meet that same philosopher when he himself has got just a boil upon his neck —and then he will have changed a lot; he will tell you in a. whisper, that is. just above hisJ breath, that to end his awful torture he would gladly welcome.' death !
