FIRE AT TE KUITI.

COTTAGE DESTROYED. \ .. . ■ A fire occurred at Te Kuiti on Wednesday night, resulting in tie desruction of a cottage situated on the Esplanade occupied by Mr Chapman and owned by the executors of the late Mr H. Matthew. The alarm was given at eight o'clock, and tha fire brigade was quickly on the scene. The fire had a good hold, there being nobody in the house at the time of the outbreak, but in a remarkably short time the brigade bad the outbreak under control, Bnd prevented the danger of the firs spreading. The building was completely gutted and the contents totally destroyed. The building was insured in the State Office for £2OO and the furniture in the London and Lancashire for £IOO.

The smart work dnoe by the brigade in subduing the outbreak was the subject of general comment.
