TOROHANCA.

Own Correspondent. PRESBYTERIAN CONCERT. The concert in aid of the Preabyteian Hall was held on Tuesday even ing. There was a good attendance which would have been considerably augmented but for the confirmation service in tho Anglican Church. The town band played selections before the concert outside the hall in a very creditable manner. The programme contained songs by Mrs Parry, Miss Wakelin, Messrs Price, Owen and Frederic; instrumental duets by Misses Armstrong and Ridgley, Mrs and Miss Claridge. Mr Price Owen was highly appreciated in his lightning sketches, his turning of "Bill Massey" into "Joe Ward" being very clever. Recitations were given by Messrs McDonald and Price Owen. The accompaniments were ably played by Miss Dora Johnson and Mr Frederic. Rev. Harvey, at the close of the concert, thanked the performers, and all those «iho had in any way helped to make the affair the success it had been. He invited the audience to stay and partake of supper, which was thoroughly enjoyed.

THE "BOOSTERS." There was a fair attendance at a meeting of the above, held in the Waipa Buildings on Monday evening last. Mr Worthington occupied the chair. Mr F. Phillips, as one of the conveners, pointed out that our sister town, Te Kuiti, and other places, had gone ahead mainly through being well advertised outside the district. Otorohanga was blessed by having good land all round it, eminently suitable for all classe3 of farming, but a great deal of it was still uno>" "pied and still in fern. The Boosters Club could do a great deal towards advertising the town, especially those members whose rjusiness necessitated a certain an-ount of travelling. Mr C Phhillips aiso spoke on the question, and pointed out the advantages of the land in the vicinity to dairy farmers, especially. Messrs Worthington, Whyte, Walker, Bannister and Claridge albO spoke. A list bearing names of 50 odd intending members was produced and it was decided to appoint an executive committee of twenty, five to form a quorum. Committee: Messrs Pettit, J. A. Ormsby, J. Rule, R. Gregg, R. G. McDonald, .1. Cumpßtone, A. Price, F. Forster, W. J. Worthington, J. Willis, F. Whyte, J. Claridge, J. Walker, F. Phillips, C. Phillips, P. D. Hargrcaves, F. Ferguson, W-. Swainson," T. Firman, and F. Ogle.

GOLF CLUB. A committee meeting of the Otorohanga Golf Club took place in Mr Phillips' office on Thursday afternoon. Present—Messrs Arrowsmith, president, Hill, Price, Edkins, Forster, and the secretary, Mr Bannister. The secretary informed the meeting that there was a balance of £9 edd in hand. It was decided to rasrk the course with notice boards to indicate the direction and number of the holes.also to have sand boxes placed at each tee. Messrs Edkins and Hill were appointed a committee to examine the links and report to next raeeeting the estimated cost of draining the swamps. On the proposal of Messrs Forster and Arrowsmith, it was avoided to add the following rule: "That the committteo have power to add to their number." Dr Leeper was elected a member of the committee and waa also ap pointed to fix "bogey." It was decided to get the hardicaps out as soon as possible, the president and secretary being appointed handicappers. , The links, which are on Mr Tom Turner's property, are only a quarter of an hour's walk from the railway station, and at very little cost can be made equal to, if not better, than any in the King Country. It is to be hoped that members will put a little vim into the club, by turning up, and also by securing as many new members as they possibly can. Messrs Arrowsmith and Edkins are to be thanked for having promised to donate trophies to bo competed for in }he forthcoming handicap.

Otorohanga tried conclusions with Maihihi, at Otorohanga, on Saturday last, at Soccer. The game resulted in a win for the home team by one goal to nil Dr Leeper acted as referee. Bishop Averill Jield a confirmation service in the Anglican Church on Tuesday night. Eleven candidates were presented. The ceremony was most impressive, the Bishop's stirri lg address to the candidates both before and atfer confirmation being particularly so. An apron social is to be given by the Anglican Ladies' Guild on Tuesday evening next. We regret report that Mr Clayton, of Otorohanga House, was compelled to leave for Hamilton Hospital yesterday morriing. He has been in indifferent health for seme weeks past and hia many friends hope that after a few weeks' under Dr Douglas' care hs will come back a new man. The Rev. Mr Harvey, who has been in the district for about a year, has been tran3ferred to Norsewood and expectß to leave Otorohanga in about a fortnight. He will be greatly missed' as ha has proved himself to be a ' v°ry hard worker, not only in church matters, but in the way in which he started and trained the Boys boys' drum and fife band.
