King Country Chronicle Wednesday, May 27th, 1914 HOSPITAL CONTRIBUTIONS.

The apportionment of contributions to the Waikato Hospital Board from the various districts has now been made, and, as was anticipated, the King Country is called upon to find a substantial portion of the total required to administer the affairs of the board daring the ensuing year. In the Waitomo County the contribution has rißen from between £4OO and £SOO to £IO3B, while in other districts less substantial increases ara noted. The chief cause for the increase in the estimates' which makes it necessary to levy a heavier contribution is the providing of more modern appliances at the Hamilton Hospital at a cost of £7500 and few will be found to question the wisdom of such a step. In view of the whole poßitiun it is gratifying to know that the out districts are receiving some attention, and there I can be little doubt that a more liberal policy in reepect to the backblock requirements will find widespread support. Only within the past year have the claims of the country been recognised to any degree, and to all who are acquainted with conditions in newly-settled country the necessity for extending the facilities already provided will irreßtibly appeal. The cutting of? of the southern end of the hospital district in order to establish a separate district with Taumarunui as the centre has not yet been effected, and the contributions from that locality are included in the list for this year. However, the estimates include an amount of £IOOO for Taumarunui Hospital, and as this amount represents practically the contributions which will bo received fom the southern portion of the distict there is apparently little to complain of. The facilities provided in Waitomo County in the Bhape of i the Pio Pio doctor's residence and a district nurse at Tangitu, it is to be hoped, are merely the forerunners of reasonable facilities throughout a rapidly-growing district which is contributing very substantially to the Hospital Board.
