CURES BY SUNLIGHT.

Lately, in various parts of the vsorld, doctors have carried out experii! enta with a view to developing the a-plication of the curative powers of direct sunlight, states the London laily Telegraph. On the Continent n any successes have been reported from the exposure of patients suiferii'j from various forms of tuberculosis to the direct rays of the sun, and the advocates of this form of treatment, ttchnically known as heliotherapy, si y that it is sometimes possible to c; re such a condit : on even where great destruction of a tissue has occurred. More recently an American phvsicia'n has been turning his attention to the effects of bright sunlight on superficial cancers. Experimenting with that form of malignant growth known as epitheiiomata, this investigator states that he has found the forusssd rayß of the sun a3 efficacious as radium and X-rays. This new form of lii»ht treatment consists in focussing direct sunlight on the diseased part tt.rough an ordinary glass lens, each treatment lasting about ten minutes or a little longer. One important advintage of the method is that, not a great number of sittings appears to be necessary. Certainly the results re ported, and accepted as valid b.v responsible authorities, 3re most encouraging. Thiri work will undoubtedly urge many other physicians to investigate the power 3 of heliotherany in the treatment of certain surface cancers.
