The High Commissionar's cable, dated London, 16th inst, is aa .follows:
Mutton.—Them are sign 3ot improvement in tha market, with bitter demand for light weights. Canterbury, 4id for light weights; little demand for heavy weights, 3 1-lGd; North Island, 4Jd; light weight ewes, 3 5-16 d. Lamb. —The market is rising and there is good demand all lamb. Canterbury two's, 6Jd; medium weights, 6Jd; heavyweights, 6d: other than Canterbury, 6Jd. Beef.—The market is firm. New Zealand hinds, 4Jd; fores, :5 7-16 d; chilled hinds, 5Jd; fores, 3§d. Butter.—Tha market is steady, with fair business doing. Danish, steady, per cwt., 113s to 115s. Mew Zealand, good demand. 106s to 108s; unsalted, 114b to 116s; Australian, fair demand, 102 ato 104s; Argentine, quiet, 100s to 102s; Siberian, steady, 98a to ICOs; Irish creameries, quiet, 108s to 110 a.
Cheese.—The market is weaker and has a tendency downward. Canadian, white per cwt., 66a to 70s; coloured, 68s to 70s; exceptionally fine. 725. New Znaland, white, 603 to 61s; coloured, 623 6d to 63a Gd; exceptionally fine, 645. Australian, white, 58s to 595; coloured, 60s to 625. English chedaar, 66s to 68a. Wool. —The wool sales closed with
the market firm at the advance. There haß bosn active buyng from all consuming centres nt Homu and on the Continent. Home manufacturers have baen laying in Btocka, and trade prospects are favourable. American cntapetltion waa active throughout the aal'» especially for merino and fine crossbreds. American purchases are approximately estimated at 24.000 bales. Some 3100 bales of New Zealand wool are held over. Estimated values are 89 follows Superior merinos, 14d to X6d; medium, lid to 13d j inferior, 9d to lOOJd; fine crossbreds, all grades, 14d to 17a; medium, lid to 13d; coarse crossbreds, lOd to 12d.
Newton King reports:— At Stoney Rivar yarda on Wednesday of last week there waa a full yarding of all classes of cattle with a good attendance of buvars who made competition keen throughout, a very satisfactory clearance being made. The weaners oilered were all cleared, but were, with the exception of a few pens, only fair cattle. Several good condition pens of 18 monthß stears sold very readily. Prices:—Weaner Holstein bulls £2 18s 6d, weaner Jersey heifer?, nica colourß 39s 6d to 43s 6.1, good T'grades 31s 6u, fair lines 23s t0'263, mixed weaners 34s 6d for a nice line moßtly heifers, others 19s to 22s Gd, weaner steers 30a to 40s, empty 18 month heifers £2 15s, springing heifers £6 7s 6d, bulls £5, cows and calves, £4 3s 6d to £6, in-calf Jersey heifers £5, fat cow J £5 10s to £6 Is, forward cows £4 4a to £4 17s, good store cows £3 103 to £4, young cows £2 15s to £3 sa, 2J year steers with some colour £5 to £5 4s, 18 months to 2 year steers £3 ias to £4 43 fid, small and rough £2 5s to £2 15s.
