NURSING HOME AT KAWHIA.
THE APPLICATION GRANTED
A matter of considerable importance to Kawhia settlers was discussed at the Hospital Board's meeting on Thursday, when Mr J. Shaw moved that provision be made for a hospital at Kawhia. The people over there, said Mr Shaw, had got together and subscribed over £4OO towards it. They had four acres of land and one of the finjst sites in the town, and the proposal was to build a house of five rooms. The treatment given there would be simply of a temporary nature. Accidents in the bush and serious illness occurred frequently, and it was absolutely essential that there should be some place where these cases could b« taken. This proposal had been before the board for the last two years, and they had promised to see the matter through, and asked Dr Douglas for a report. Dr Douglas said tha<t he had had an interview with Mr Warren, the architect, who without seeing the site estimated the cost at £IOOO. Mr Boddie, in supporting the motion, considered that it was a very fair one, the pople of Kawhia had been very patient, and while it was a wise course to have a central hospital, yet it was essential to have a place where patients could receiye attention at once, especially in an outlying district. After a good deal of further discussion the motion was carried, £7OO being put on the estimates.
