PURCHASE OF INSTRUMENTS. ASSISTANCE BY COUNCIL. Since tho inauguration of the Town Band at To Kuiti a great many changes have boen made in the poraonnol and management of the band. After the band had been started and when it was found necessary to purchase instrument!! application was made to the Lorough Council for assistance and a grant of ~V,:M> was inada by the Coiim-.il for the purpose. Tho position o? the band has been discussod by tile Council and at tim meeting heforn last the Finance and Legal Committee was instructed to go into tho matter and report. Tho following report was submitted and adopted at Monday evening's meeting: -"As instructor.] by tho Council at its lust mooting, this Con.mittee has gone into Lho question of the Municipal ilaud instruments, and beg to report having interviewed tho hon. sec, Mr A. JO. Robinson, upon the s osition of Lho hand, and /hid that they owe a sum of O,'M) on their in-strument.-i, which amount should he jiuid immediately, and towards which thov have a sine of .iJiJO in hand. Mr Robinson states thai, thn band recognises tho fact that, the Horough Council are trinteeii of tho whole of trie int.rumonls. After d\a) consideration the Committee decided to recommend to the Council that a sum of £l2 10a he paid to i.he ham! as a subsidy during thin financial year, which is to ho used in paying oil! tho existing debt on the instruments, and upon the understanding that tho band are agreeable to render not loss than six free .concerts, open-air or otherwise,during the next twelve months. The Conimit.tee also report that one of the bandsmen has severely damaged a cornel, which was presented to the band, and would recommend to the Council that ho tm demanded to immediately replace the instrument with a new one. otherwise legal proceedings should bo tuken against him."
