King Country Chronicle Wednesday, April 22nd, 1914 COUNTY BOUNDARIES.
The King Country is apparently not the only district where the necessity is felt of an adjustment of the boundaries of adjacent counties. At the conference of Taranaki Counties held last month a resolution was carried that the Government be appealed to to make an equitable adjustment of boundaries of existing counties witb the object of promoting community of interest and improving the condition of the ratepayers generally. Witb regard to the position of the Taranaki Counties little need be said, but the fact that it is' deemed expedient to appeal to the Government concerning the matter is an indication that little hope is entertained of the various bodies coming to an agreement among themselves. With regard to the King Country counties there is little likelihood of the boundary questions becoming a
subject of dispute in the manner indicated by th 3 Taranaki remit. There is no doubt however that the question of county boundaries in this district requires the serious consideration of
the settlers. On their own initiative the settlors al the ox I renin Northorn end of the VVaitomo County are taking steps to have their district cut off from VVaitomo and included in Waipa County. The reason advanced for the action is that the district; mentioned haa community {if interest with To Awamutu, the county town of Waipa, With thh contention established, few will be fuued te disagree with the application. It is entirely in the interests of the district and of the
Dominion that, the various local bodies shall control only those localities which may reasonably l;e dec mad tc bo within their sphere of influence. Of an entirely different nature is the question of boundaries between West Taupo County and Waitomo. Unfortunately the former county is not yet operative, and the question of boundaries is in consequence more difficult to handle. In the interests of the Bottlers and of progress generally it is desirable that tfio adjustment of boundaries should ho taken in hand, .By adopting a resolution en lines identical with the remit of the
Taranaki Counties the Kin/' Country AHHOCiiUion affirmed the desirability of adjustment. Who thai' action is taken by tho sottlers themselvtiH, or by tho Government, it ia Lo bo hoped a satisfactory solution of the difficulty will he arrived at within a reasonable period.
