MAORI LAND BOARDS.
THE CHANGES OUTLINED. Appointments of Native Land Court Judges and Registrars were announced last week in accordance with the new legislation coming into operation on March 31st. There has been no change in regard to judges, but among the registrars the arrangement of Maori Lands districts necessitated three new appointments—Messrs Teutenburg, Ikaroa district; Grimstone, Tokerua; and Swanaon, Waiariki, The late registrar of Wellington district has been made registrar of the newly-craated South Island district. Auckland Provincial district, formerly a single Native Land Court district, has been divided into three, and Wellington district into two. The European and native members of Maori Land Boards ceased on March 31st to exercise those functions, as the Maori Land Board for each district comprises the judge and registrar. A curious division of control is to be noticed in regard to these officials, each judge being under the Native Minister's con'srol, while tne registrar —the other half of the Board—has, according to the Public Service Act, to look to the Public Service Commissioner for the regulation of his duties.
