PROTECTIVE RAILWAY FREIGHTS.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PROTEST.
[BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, This Day. The council of the Chamber of Commerce decided to support the Wellintgon Chamber in the protest against the action of the Railway Department in using freights for protective nurposes. It was explained that certain articles had Customs duty imposed on tbem, and then had an increased railway freight put upon them, the result being the penalising, among others, of backblock settlers.
