VALEDICTORY.

A very pleasing function took place on the Te Kuiti Boiling and Croquet Club's ground on Thursday afternoon last, the occasion being to farewell Miss I. V. Grattan, who has left the public school to taks up her duties north of Auckland. The larg9 numbsr of adults and children pre aant showed plainly tha esteem in which Miss Grattan waa held. During the afternoon a delightful afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies. Before the gathering dispersed Mr J. P. Walsh, chairman of ths School Committee, on behalf of her many Te Kuiti friends, presented Miss Grattan with a very handsome hand hag containing a purse of sovereigns. In making the presentation, Mr Walsh mentioned the. esteem in which Miss Grattan had been held by all who knew her. and expressed the regret felt by all at her departure from Te Kuiti, and wished her tha best of luck in the future. Mr Thomas, on Mi?s Grattan's behalf, thanked tha donors for their hsndsoma gift, and also the ladies who had arranged the pleasant function that afternoon. He assured those present that Miss Grattan most thoroughly appreciated the kindness extended to her, and would always have a warm placa in her heart for Te Kuiti. Miss Gtattan also received many nice little gifts from the school children, which sha much appreciated.
