LAWN TENNIS.

A meeting of the King Country Lawn Tennis Association waa held at Taumarunui on Friday evening last, all affiliated clubs except Ongarue and Te Kuiti being represented. It was decided to send a team of six or eight men players to plav an Auckland team at Auckland on Saturday, April 3Stn, if this date is proved suitable to the Auckland Association. The secretary was also instructed to invite Hamilton Club to send a mixed team to play King Country at Taumarunui on Saturday, 25th inst.

Notice of motion was given by the Mangapehi Club, "That the Howard Shield rules be altered to enable the Shield to be won outright; qualification, Shield to be won three times in succession or five times at intervals."

A team of eight players, representing Mangapehi Club travelled to | Taumarunui on Friday evening and were most hospitably entertained at a social and dance by the Taumarunui Tennis Club. The following day the club tried conclusions fur the Howard Shield, the laurels this time resting with tho Taumarunui Club, and incidentally the possesion of the Shield. Some very close conteita were witnesed, victory going to Taumarunui by aix matches to four, one match, being unfinished. Appended are the results, Mangapehi players being mentioned first:— Men's Singles. —A. McCracken beat Gray Poutawera, 65, 6—2; H. Rrumby lost to H. Allkinß, 1 -6, 2_6; W. Buck lest to S. Lorking, 3—6,' 2-6. Ladies' Singles.—Misa D. Johnson lost to Mrs Strang, 6—l, 5 —6, 3 —6; Miss E. McCracken beat Miss Garrett, 3 —6, 6—4, 6 —4. Combined Doubles. —Miss W. Johnson and McCracken .beat Miss A. S'ymondi and Gray, 6 —l, 6 2; Mrs Gray and Seymour lost to Miss P. Symonds and Sarah, 3 —-6, 2 —6. Ladies' Dohules. Misses Johnson beat Mrs Strang and Miss A- Symonds, 64. 6—l; Mrs Gray and Miss McCracken v. Miss Symonds and Garrett, unfinished. Men' 3 Doubles.—Buck andißrumby lost to Gray and Sarah. 2—6, 6—4, 0—0 ; McCracken and Seymour lo3t to Allkins and Lorking, 65. 4—6, 2—6. The team to reprpent King Country against Auckland wili be selecied irom the following:—Kelso, Gray. Allkirs, Lorking, Winger, Hayson, Edlington, Brumby, Walllsce, and McCracken.
