WAITOMO CAVES.

o Own Correspondent. Grass seed sowing is now nearly finished, and the area laid down will largely augment the stock-carrying capacity of the district. The weather during the last week or two has been ideal for grass and the turnip crops should be well supplied with oisture now. There are som9 very pro mising crops of both swedes and soft turnips around Waitomo. The pests which make turnip growing bo uncertain in older districts have no apparently found us out yet. On March 25th Mr Cooper, from Hamilton, addressed a small gathering of settlers at Waitomo Caveß with reference to the proposed new freezing works for the Waikato and King Country, and placed before them the advantages of taking up shares and helping to make it purely a farmers' concern. A number of shares; were applied for in the room, but owing to the shortness of the notice, and the consequent small attendance to discuss such an important matter, it was decided to hold another meeting in Mr Johnston's woolshed on April 2nd at 11 a.m., when representatives of Marokopa and Kiritehera settlers are expected to be present.
