-'♦ - i PRESENTATION TO MR H. t ARTHUR. t 1 A very enjoyable evening was spent at Mr Edgar's residence on Tuesday , evening by the memhcrs oi the I üblic , Works Btaff. the occasion being to bio { farewell to Mr H. Arthur who is l ibeing promoted to the Stratford office ,of the Department. Both the oflice ( and Held stalT were well represented, } ,andan apology was reud from Mr t Donaldson, the local emsmoer, who . xwaa prevented from by illness from , attending. Mr Kclgar, on tmhul of ( itbose present, presented Mr Arthur rwith a gold watch atid H a few well- < •chosen words expressed regret which ( •everyone felt at Mr Arthur B dopar- , >ture Mr Arthur, in responding, rt- ( marked on the goodf-eling which had { always existed between ai d j -the other members of the stuffs dur- , ling the time he had u*e.i chief clerk •of the Te Kuiti office; and that, al- , though he was being promoted to a ( Ilarger district, lie would nlw»y« look . Iback at the pleasant times no had spent in Te Kuiti. A large number , of those present, including Mr Baker, the resident engineer at Okahukura, paid tribute to the capable manner in which Mr Arthur had always carried. out his dutio.-i. A number of toasts [ were honoured and songs rendered by nearly ever one in the company, while pipe elections by Meßsrs Campbell and Mc.Killop were much enjoyed. Mr J. lletet officiated at the piano in his usual very able manner, and a very sociable evening terminated at 2.30 a.m. with th« singing of "Auld Lang Syne.
