At a Labour demonstration at Johannesburg five thousand were inside the hall and ten thousand attended the overflow meeting. Mr Creswell produced a telegram from General Smuts instructing the authorities not to hesitate to shoot if the strikers, after warning, tried to enter the railway premises. Mr Cresswell demanded if the document was false the Government should say so. The meeting carried a resolution condemning the Indemnity Bill.
