HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE
Wellington, Monday
The following is the High Commissioner's market report, dated London, March 14tb, quotations unless other wise specified are average market Driceß on spot — Mutton.—The market is firm. North Island 4£d per lb. The demand is chiefly for lightweight at as high as 4£d. Dull sale for heavy sarcases at 4£d.
Lamb. —There is a good demand for all lamb, but prices have slightly declined for all grades on account of large supplies coming forward. Canterbury two's 6j|d, heavyweights 6|d, other than Canterbury 6£d. Bpef.—The market is very dull, on account of supplies of American chilled beef being large. No change in prices. New Zealand hindquarters 44d, fores 4d, chilled hinds sd, fores 35d. Butter. —The market is dull, and prices irregular. Danish 121s to 1245, New Zealand 110s to 114s. Australian 108s to 112b, Argentine 108s to 110s, Siberian 108s to 112s. Cheese.—The market is steady at a decline. The Canadian market is slow White 68s to 70s, coloured 70s to 71s. New Zealand cheese is in fair demand. White 62a to 63s 6d, coloured 64s 6d to 65s 6d. Australian: White 62s to 62s 6d, coloured 63s to 65a.
Messrs Dalgety and Co , Ltd., report: — TAUMAEUNUI SALE.
We held our monthly sale in the above yards on the 10th inst., when we yarded 100 sheep and 100 head of cattle, »nd have to report selling all lines offered at; prices which were low =r than the Waikato. We quote: —Two tooth wethers 12s 3d to 14s, s.m. ewes Bs3 d to £9 Bs, woolly lambs 8a lOd to 10s 9d, cull lambs 5s 6d to 7s Bd, two year anil two and a half year steers £4 15s to £5 4s, 18 month steers £3 ss, 18 month heifers £3, dairy cows £3 5s to £5 ss.
NGARUAWAHI SHEEP FAIR. We held our second sheep fair in these yard i on the inst , when the advertised number came forward. There was a good demand for all classes of sheep, consequently bidding was brisk, and we report a total clearance. We quote:—Pour tooth wethers 16s Id to 18s Bd, 2 tooth wethers 13b 4d to 15s 2d, 2 tooth ewes 12s 6d to 14s 6d, 4 toot'j ewes 14s 2d to 16s, .i.f.m. ewes 12s 6d to 14s 3d. s.m. ewes 10s 9d to lis Bd. woolly lambs 8s to 10s 4d, shorn lambs 5s 6d to 8s 3d, call ewes 8s 4. rams, 2 tooth Romney 2gns to 2£gns. PIO PIO SHEEP FAIR.
We held the above fair in the Pio Pio yards on the 9th inst., when mere than the advertised number came forward, There was a good demand, and all lines offered changed hands. We quote:—4 and 6 tooth wethers 17a 3d, 2 tooth wethers 13s 3d to 15s 3d, 2 tooth ewes 13s to 14s 6d, f.m. ewes 10a 4d to 12s 6d, fat ewes 14s to 14? 2d, shorn lamba 7s 9d to 8s 3d, cull lamba 5s 6d.
