AWAKINO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Awakino County Council was held at Waitanguru on Saturday last. There were preesnt Cra Leech (chairman), Boddy, Kelly, Patterson, Old, and Tboms. The Receiver of Land Revenue write with respect to thirds, which will be available for expenditure by the Council at March 31st The Valuer-General advised the Council that enquiries are being made with reference to a fresh valuation of the County being made.

The Minister of Public Works wrote, saying that the Council's representations w'uh reference to the formation of a portion of the Mangakokopu road wer6 having his attention.

The settlers of the north coast Bide of the Awakino river wrote asking the Council to endorse a petition signed by them addressed to the Minister of Public Works asking him to form a track from the Awakino bridge near tbe cheese factory to the boundary of section 2 block 7, Awakino north.—On the motion of Crs Boddy and Kelly it was reßolved that the Council endorse tbe petition as requested. Correspondence was received from the Minister of Lands and Mr C. K. Wilson, in connection with road access to section 2 block 2, Whareorino survey district. —On the motioii of Crs Leech and Patterson it was resolved that the clerk write asking tbe district roads engineer the amount of thirds accrued to sections owned by Messrs Whitcombe Bros., and if it is possible to hand it over to the Council at once so that the erection of a bridge to give access to the above section can be proceeded with at once. —On the motion of Cra Patterson and Kelly the chairman was authorised to sign the necessary declaration in connection with the extension of Iredale quay. On the motion of Cra Kelly and Leech it was resolved that the clerk write the resident engineer asking him to instruct Mr Innes, who is now on the ground, to prospect for a less expensive road on the eastern side of the Te Maramara stream for a portion of the distance and thence to the saddle nearest the newly opened Crown lands.

Crs Boddy and Old moved that that portion of the Awakino County marked on the plan and presented to the Council recedes from the said County subject to any slight alteration of boundary as agreed to by councillors, and, that that portion merges into the Waitomo County. Crs Kelly and Leeuh moved as an amendment that this Council does not agree to the severance of the Mahoenui portion until Buch time as the whole of the eastern side portion of the Northern riding wishes to cut off. The amendment was carried. Cr Kelly. Patterson, and Thorns voting for, and Crs Bcddy and Old againßt. On the motion of Crs Kelly and Patterson it was resolved that In execie of the powers conferred on it by section 23 of "The Counties Act, 1908," the Awakinu County Council shall resolve by way of special order as follows: —The present division of the county of Awakino into three ridings is revoked, and in lien thereof the «aid County shall be divided into six ridings to be called respectively Awakino riding, Mahoenui riding, Waikawau riding, Puketiti riding, Mangaohae riding, and Marokopa riding; the said Awakino County Council shall consist oC six members, who shall b«> elected as follows: The electors of each of the above ridings shall each elect one councillor; the alteration hereby made shall take effect on and after the 11th day of November, 1914.
