Of the 723,000 men composing the French army, 37,531 are in hospital. During the debate in the House of Deputies the Minister for War admitted a lack of clothing, bedding, and heating apparatus in the barracks, owing to the unexpected increase in the number of volunteers elected. Of 713,000 in the German army, 17,610 ■re in hospital.
