PICTURE THEATRE FIRE.

BLAZE AT TAUMARUNUI. Tumarunui, Monday. Extensive damage by fire occurrd in the Strond Picture Theatre on Saturday night. The audience had just left the building when a film broke, and, coming in contact with an arc lamp, a explosion, followed by a big blaze, ensued, the operator being badly burned about the hands and arms. The ceiling and roof were practically destroyed, the wallß charred, the seats greatly damaged, the projector ruined, and all the films absolutely destroyed The damage is estimated at £3OO. The building and machine were covered by insurance, but there was no insurance on the films. The Strand Theatre had just been reopened, and the films being used were all new. The proprietors ware all local men. The fire brigade did excellent work.
