HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE.

The following is the High Commissioner's cable dated February 21st, quotations unless otherwise specified being average market prices on spot: Mutton. Although mora demand exists, prices declined on account of large supplies coming forward. North Island 4Jd for medium weights. Better demand exists for light weights, which are quoted as hign as 4d.

Lamb. —Market qui6t. No change in prices for best quality, but limited for poorer grades, and prices declined Other .than Canterbury 6£d for best quality light weights.

Beef. Market firm. New Zealand hinds 4Sd, forea 4d; chiliad hinds 5Jd, foreß 4Jd. Butter. —Market steady, with improved demand for New Zealand. Danish, market firmer at 121s to 1245; New Zt aland, 114s to 116s; Australian, market quiet but steady at 110s to 112s; Argentine atid Siberian, market steady at 110s to 112s. Chee:->3. Market steady. Prices well maintained, with fair demana for Now Zealand, A Bmall shipment of Australian cheese at Liverpool sold vary freely at 64s to 665. Canadian market quiet but firm. White 69s t.o 71s, coloured 70s to 725; New Zealand white 63s 6d to 64s 6d, coloured 66s to 66s fid.

In the Ohaupo yards on Tuesday of last week we held our annual sheep fair. Bidding was spirited rigbt throughout the sale, and every pen offered was sold under the hammer. Wethers and aged ewes were in cutra good demand, and sold at advanced rates. We quote: —4 tooth wethers 15s 4d to 16a 4d, 2 tooth wethers 14s 3d to 15s Bd, fat ewes 14s to 16s, woolly lambs 8s lOd to 10s, shorn lambs 8s lid to lis 4d, small lambs 6s Id to 6s Bd, 2 tooth eWea 13s 9d, 4 tooth ewes 17a, f.f.ni. ewes 12s 4d to 13s 2d, f.m. ewes lis 9d to 12s 6d, broken mouth ewes and culls 7s 6d to 10s 6d ; f.m.
