There is a widely-expressed wish in Reform League circles that Mr A. E. Harding, a former member, should contest the seat. At a meeting held last week at Aratapu, Mr Hoe. of Helensville, who is an Opposition candidate, expressed his views on the poiltical situation, and it was decided to develop the Opposition organisation. Wellington, Thursday. The militant activity of the United Federation of Labour has to a great extent diverted public attention from the fact that the United Labour party, a political body supported by trade unionists who oppose the strike as the primary weapon is still in existence The" local branch of the latter body holds a political conference today, and intends to take part in the municipal elections. The national organisation of the party will meet in Wellington at Easter. Meanwhile the Wellington branch has circularised its members stating, in regard to its own conference, "We strongly desire that all the unions may be in agreement on the political situation, as otherwise the Conservatives may retain offica for years to come. It is of opinion that the majority of the unions substantially agree with our platform, and want to labour in the political field as a Labour party. The business will be to review the platform of our party, and reconstruct the same on such lines as the unions desire."
