A MOVING TARGET.
Flaherty was new to the business ; his first attempt to plough was not altogether a pronounced success. "Look here," said the farmer,; "that kind of thing won't do. You should fix your eye on something across the field, and head straight for it. That cow there by the gate, right opposite us ; aim at her, and you'll do pretty well." Just then the farmer was called away. When he returned, twenty minutes later, he was enraged to perceive that the plough had been wandering all over the field. ""Hold on there, you dunder-headed scamp," he shouted. "What on earth are you up to ?" "Sure, sir," was the reply, " and haven't Oi done what ye told me ? I worked straight for the cow, but the bleesed cravt.ure wouldn't kape st'ill."
