KING COUNTRY SHOW.
THE OPENING DAY. The third annual Show under the auspices of the King Country Central Agricultural "and Pastoral Association was opened " to-day at the Showground, Te Kurai. Mr C. K. Wilson, member for the district, intended to be present, and perform the official opening, but intimated that he was unable to attend to-day. He will, however, be present to-morrow. The opening day is chiefly devoted to judging and a large attendance is not expected. However, a very fair number of country people manifesting a keen interest in all the exhibits wended their way to the Showground, and it is anticipated that an increase over the attendance of last year will be shown when the returns come to be made up. . . Judging was commenced fairiy well up to the time specified, and at midday some it the clasaeß were got through. Given fine weather to-morrow the Show promises to be a record success. The competitors in the hack and hunting classes constitute a big attraction for the public, and this year there is every indication that keen contests will be provided. , , .., . Attention is called to the fact that the smoke concert in connection with the Show will be held in the Municipal Hall on Thursday evening. Tickets, which are being issued at half-a-crown, may be obtained from the secretary.
