ARIA.
Own Correspondent,
On Thursday representatives of the Aria Cricket Club journeyed to Pio Pio and there played a two innings' match against the Pio Pio Cricket Club. Some of the Aria men were in good form (Manning 20, Nugent 34, O'Sullivan 17), the first innings closing for 96. Pio Pio had not quite the same luck, the first innings closing for 36, Kilmartin putting together 22. In the second innings, however, things went better for them, the score being 79, with Neal 22, Walsh and Freeman 12 each. Aria then followed on with 19 to win, which they had not much trouble to put together. The day's sport proved thoroughly enjoyable and the visitors were treated most hospitably by their hosts. In the evening a very enjoyable entertain-' ment was provided in the hall. About a fortnight ago the drought broke and for ten days showery days and rainy nights were the order of things, the result being that all water tanks and creeks are well replenished. All vegetation has again put forth great growth, which must result to the benefit of the dairy farmer, although, perhaps, those harvesting have felt the damp weather hang on too long. Many took the opportunity to sow turnips, or grass on the bush burns, and from present appearances abundant autumn and winter feed will result. Road contractors, however, have been hindered in their work and would now welcome a month's open weather.
The plough is steadily going for Boft turnips and autumn oats.
