AWAKING COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Avvskino County Council was held at Waitanguru on Saturday. February 7th. There were present Crs Boddy, Kelly, Patterson and Thorns. In the absence of Cr Leech, Cr Boddy was voted to the chair. Cr Leech wired his regret at being unable to attend owing to being under medical treatment.—On the motion of Crs Boddy and Kelly, a resolution was passed expressing the Council's regret at Cr Leech's illness, and trusting that he would soon be in good beaUb again. Correspondence was received from the State Guaranteed Advances Department with reference to the Kiritehere, Waitanguru, and Waipaua loans. —The clerk was instructed to write the department asking them to expedite matters as much as poßßible. Mr Hally wrote urging the Council to use its influence to get the Government to complete the formation work on the Mangakokopu road in readiness for the metalling which is to be done by special loan. —On the motion of Crs Patterson and Kelly, it was resolved that the clerk be instructed to write the Minister for Public Works asking him to complete the formation work on the Mangakokopu road from its junction with the Kiritehere road to the eastern boundary of section 6, block 2, Whareorino survey district, so that the metalling scheme can be carried out. Messrs Suggate'and Dansey, engineers, wrote offering their services to the county. Mr Newcombe asked permission to erect a post and rail fence for half a chain approaching the Mangaotaki bridge on the Te Kuiti-Awakino road. —On the motion of Crs Kelly and Patterson the matter was left to Cr Boddy to deal with. The Public Works Department wrote with reference to opening up the road from Waikauau to Kiritehere' and the Waikauau Upper Valley road. —On the motion of Crs Kelly and Patters™ the matter was held over pending the chairman's report. The Waitomo County Council wrote asking the Awakino County to assist financially in getting expert advice as to the advisability of putting in a light railway from Te Kuiti to Pio Pio.—On the motion of Crs Boddy and Thorns it was resolved that the County offer to contribute onequarter of the cost of the trial survey, etc., and that such cost be charged to the eastern portion of the South riding, the east portion of the Central riding, and that portion of the North riding affected. On the motion of Crs Kelly and Patterson it was resolved that it be left in Cr Thorn's bands to explain to Mr Ongley the Council's attitude re the Mangaotaki road On the motion of Crs Kelly and Thotus, it was resolved that the matter of the Awakino telephone loan be held over pending further information from the Postal Department. On the motion of Crß Boddy and Kelly it was resolved that the matter of taking out a fidelity insurance policy be left in the hands of the clerk. Crs Patterson and Kelly proposed that Crs Leech and Boddy be appointed delegates to attend the meeting of the Backblocks Association to be held at Taumarunui, and that the question of remits in connection with this be held over till the next meeting. On the motion of Cra Patterson and Thorns it was reßolved that ihe Government be asked to make a fresh valuation of the County as it is four years since it was last done. The clerk was asked to procure a list of thirds and the date when available for the Awakino County. It was resolved that it be left to Cr Boddy to make arrangements for expending the Government grant on the road west of the Mangaotaki bridge. It was resolved that the matter of fixing the riding boundaries be left over till the next meeting. The next meeting of the Council will be held at Waitanguru on Saturday. March 7th, at 3.30 p.m.
