The German Geographical Society has handed over to Commander Evans its gold medal awarded to Captain Scott for his work in the Antarctic. Mr Kirkwood has received advice that his tender for installing electric light and heating in the Te Kuiti post office has been accepted, and instructions bave been gi.en to proceed with the work at once. At the King's personal desire, a portion of Kennington on the southern side of the Thames, one of the worst slum areas of which the King is landlord, has been completely cleaned out. The old houses have been demolished and new streets made, while a number of modern artisans' dwellings bave been erected.
