A SUSPICIOUS FIRE.

EVIDENCE OF CONSPIRACY

Received Friday, 8.5 p.m

By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyright Melbourne, Friday.

At the inquiry into the fire at Jay's drapery stores owned by Jacob Epstein, the evidence showed that the stock was insured for £3OOO. After the fire Epstein was declared insolvent and disappeared.

The coroner, summing up, said the circumstances of the fire were brimful of suspicion and pointed to a conspiracy. The evidence showed that the shelves were filled with a beggarly array of empty boxes, and there was a shortage of stock, which on book value was worth £3OOO.
