STATE ADVANCES DEPARTMENT.

LOANS TO SETTLERS AND WORKERS. [BY TEMXJBAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 Wellington, Friday. Particulars of the loans made by the State-Advancea Department since the present Government took office, were supplied to a reporter by the Hon. Ja3. Allen, Minister for Finance. During the nineteen months which ended on January 31st, 1914, 3166 loans were made by the Advances to Settlers branch, the amount in question being £1,426,685. Advnces to workers during the same period numbered 1604 and totalled £522,335. The total amount advanced by the two branches during the nineteen months was £1,948,720. During the eighteen months which ended on December Ist, 1913, the local authorities branch granted 317 loans, totalling £619,020. The Minister is of opinion that the volume of the lending above disclosed is being fully maintained at the present time.
