BOWLING.
The local green has been fairly well patronised of late, and the form of the players has been satisfactorily maintained. The president's trophies are still keenly sought for, both the singles medal and the pairs buckles being coveted by the majority of members. During the week some exciting games were played for possession of the trophies, and the medal changed hands on two occasions. Matthew, the holder of the medal for some time lost the trophy to Cochrane after an exciting tussle, and the winner was immediately challenged by Young. The latter's experience at the South Auckland tournament has evidently benefitted him considerably, and bis methods of building a head were worthy of a veteran player. Making full use of his handicap Young established a sub3tantial lead early in the game and eventually won by a fair margin. Another colt in the person of Rowell has challenged for the medal and a good game should result, though the holder is very confident of retaining the trophy. The buckles match between the holders. Power and Howarth, and Steel and Rowell provided a good game, and honours were about even until the last four heads, when Power and his partner scored heavily and won by 24 to 17.
Further interest should be imparted into the game by the contest for the Jackson Cup. the draw for which is published herewith:—

On Thursday afternoon was witnessed one of the most stirring games ever played locally. Matthew and Rowell challenged for the Duckies, and after a keen and exciting game, which was fought all the way, the challen gers won from the holders, Power and Howarth. All the players were in good form, but in the early stages of the match the drawing of the challengers was irresistible. Power drove splendidly, but was unable to offset the excellent form of his opnonents, of whom Rowell was drawng like a champion. In the second half the game evened up until on the last head but one it stood 19 all, and the challengers put three on and won handBomely. All the contestants are to be congratulated upon the form shown.
