MAIN ROAD QUESTION.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. THE RAILWAY PROJECT. REPORT TO RE OBTAINED. At the laat meeting of the Waitomo County Council it was arranged that in the event of no definite) information being' forthcoming from the Public Wurke Department concerning the Council's application for assistance to metal that portion of the Te KuitiPio Pio road which haa been handed over to the Council, a deputation should procured to Wellington and interview the Minister on the subject. Meaars Seboles, County Chairman, and Mora, clerk, proceeded to Wellington at the beginning of the waeK and placed the matter before the Hon. Mr Eraser. After discussing the position, the, Minister promised to give some assishmeo towards keeping the road open for traffic during the coming winter, pending the adoption of a comprehensive scheme. In connection wich the proposal to construct a light railway from Te Kuiti, and, if possible, obtain the necessary power from the Wairere Kails, the Minister undertook to send Mr Parry, the Government electrical engineer, to provide a report and estimate on behalf of the Waitomo and Awakino Counties, both of which bodies are interested in any means of transit through that portion of the district. Mr Parry, who is an eminent authority on electrical engineering, has been requisitioned by the Tasmania!) Government to report on electrical schemes in that State, and it will ho some weeks before he can come to Te Kuiti However, the importance of the proposal was recognised, and the obtaining of an expert report will definitely decide the course of action which it will be advisable to adopt. '
