A very good performance with the blade shears is reported from a station in the Fairlie district, Canterbury. The tally for one day was 109, but the excellence of the performance lies in the fact that the shearer was on his first venture. He learned shearing at the technical classes held at Smithfield in October, and bad never bepn on boardß previously. This is said to be something of a record for a novice with the sheare.
