The lectures hy Mr A. J. Balfour at the Glasgow Ur.iverstiy on theisms are exciting attention He argues that the body of beliefs which all entertain about the world, men and things are more reasonable if regarded in a theismic setting. He said the other day that until the idea of consciousness was added to evolution, the latter was an unmeaning phrase. Unless behind men's reasoning, ethical sentiments and feeling for beauty, men found rational cause, a moral cause and a God who cared for beauty, these beliefs must he largely valueless.
