AWAKING COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tho regular monthly meeting of the Awakino County Council was held at Waitanguru on Saturday. There were pronent Cra Leech (chairman), Boddy, Kelly, Patterson, Old and Thom3. On the motion of Crß Boddy and Old it was resolved that the raads of the Marokopa township, proposed to be dedicated to the Awakino County Council by the Marokopa Milliner Co., must be metalled before the council take them over.
On the motion of Crs Boddy and lOllv it was resolved that the clerk's action in signing on behalf of the council the petitions urging that a post office and telephone bureau be established at Waitanguru be endorsed. On the motion of Crs Leech and Kelly it wa3 resolved that the clerk be instructed to apply to the Public Trustee for a loan of £250 for the erection of the Awakino-Waikawau telephone line.
On the motion of Crs Leech and Boddy i' was resolved that the council make and levy a general rate of Id in the £ on the unimproved value of all ratable property separately within the North. Central, and South ridings within the Awakino County, such rate to bo for a period commencing on the first day of April, 1913, and ending an the thirty-first ady of March, 1914, to become due and payable in one sum on tho 2(>th day of January, 1914. On the motion of Crs Kelly and Boddy it was resolved that the council employ an engineer on commission to supervise tho expenditure of the loans already approved of by the Council. On tho motion of Crs Leech and Patterson it was resolved that the clerk be instructed to write to the State Advances office regarding the Mangaka-kopu-Kiritehsre and Waipawa loans as the council is anxious tn start work immediately, these loans having been approved of.
On the motion of Crs Leech and Kelly it was resolved that Cr Boddy bo empowerd to expend up to £5 in effecting repairs on the MahoenniMarokopa road. On tho motion of Crs Leech and Kelly it was resolved that Crs Boddy and Old be authorised to sign the necessary alterations in the motion re lating to the Waitanguru special loan and affix the seal of the Council thereto.
On tho motion of Crs Old and Kelly it was resolved that in future the council meeting be held at 3.30 p.m. Mr S. Leitch waited on the Council urging that the Council use their best efforts to get Government grants expended on the Mangaotaki-Awakino rond instead of the Mangaotaki-Kiri-tehere road.—The Council expressed
ir approval of this and stated that they had already brought this matter before the Government engineer.
