LONDON'S POOR.

♦ RECEIVING RELIEF. London, Saturday. The number of poor receiving relief in London is 102,887. There are 72,894 inmates in the workhouses, and 29,993 people are receiving outdoor relief. This total of 205,746 is 3 reduction of 7405 as com pared with the figures of 1912, but In visvv' of th<? unequalled prosperity the country is enjoying, the diminution is considered disappointing. One of the most disquieting features in connection with the matter is the proportion of people per 1000 of the population receiving relief in the boroughs. In Poplar it is 43 per 1000, in Bermondsey 38, in St. Giles 39. in Stepney 32, in Whiteehapei 24, and in Islintgon 27.
