DISTRICT ROAD BOUNDARIES.

The Editor. Sir,--I have bean very much puzzled why the north pari of Awakino contrailed by the Public Works Department was re-transferred back to New Plymouth. Settlers were very much pleased a few years ago when it was put under the control of the Te Kuiti office, but their hopes were soon shattered by finding that the district was put into the New Plymouth district again. It is hard to conceive why tiuch was the caae, and is an absolute absurdity as any one with a knowledge o* the geography of the country knows The public works of the district should be carried out from Te Kuiti. and settlers should unite to have this carried into effect. Imagine the Mangaobae and Mangaotaki districts being governed from New Plymouth when they are within a stone's throw from Te Ku ; ti. Progress is being absolutely blocked to give access to the coast and instead of a progressive policy being carried out through a large portion of Crown lands and active policy is being pursued in making a road a little way inland from the coast and tapping a narrow Bnd sparsely settled area of country, it gives accesp to nowhere, but goes in the direction of New Plymouth one hundred miles away, It is time Bettlerß showed a united front and stopped tho dictatorial system of where roads should be made. —I am, 6tC " AWAKINO
